Navarre is a land of great wines. Since time immemorial, thousands of hectares of vines have maintained the exquisite wine making tradition. Under the Navarre Designation of Origin, there are some excellent wines and bodegas, such as those highlighted below.

CASTILLO DE MONJARDÍN
This modern bodega (founded in 1988) is located in Villamayor de Monjardín, a locality in the Estella area.

Surrounded by vineyards growing French varieties, this company made a spectacular entrance onto the wine market.

You will be particularly surprised by its Chardonnay whites and its reds, such as the 1998 Pinot Noir or the Cabernet-Merlot 1996, Crianza category.

Currently, half its production is exported. It has achieved all this thanks to a careful wine making process, with the vineyards planted before the bodega was created.

A visit can be arranged by phoning 948 53 74 12 and, if you want, you can even enjoy a typical meal from Navarre in its restaurant.

BODEGAS JULIÁN CHIVITE
Located in Cintruénigo, Chivite is the oldest bodega to have the Navarre Designation of Origin. It was founded in 1647 and is now a leading company with sales to more than 48 countries and  68%  of its wine production is exported.

Amongst its many virtues, is the quality of its 12,854 casks of French and American oak and the bodega of Señorio de Arínzano, located in the Estella area, designed by the very famous architect, Rafael Moneo. If you would like to visit, phone beforehand 948 81 10 00. Moreover, you can enjoy an excellent meal in the dining room there.

It is impossible to highlith all its excellent wines. The white wine of the Chivite 125 Collection, Vendimia Tardía 1997 is verging on perfection, as well as the Chivite red wines, Collection 125 Reserva 1995 and 1996.

The Gran Feudo wines are also exquisite. For years they have been the flagship of the Navarre rosé wines. Its second brand is Bodegas Beaumonte.

BODEGAS IRACHE
These bodegas are located close to the Monastery of Irache,  and join the wine making tradition with some modern installations. For the crianza wines, they have an impressive cellar with pointed arches, and which is a real marvel.

Another place to be pointed out is the “Fountain of Irache”, the property of the Bodega, from which water flows from one pipe and wine from the other.

Its tempranillo, graciano, viura and garnacha grapes produce top quality wines: the Gran Reserva red wine, Fuente de Irache, the Gran Irache Crianza 1996, the Real Irache Gran Reserva 1982, the Prado de Irache 1996 and, amongst the whites, the Irache Chardonnay 1998. The telephone to arrange a visit is 948 55 19 32.

BODEGAS SEÑORÍO DE OTAZU
Further north, in Echauri, the Gabarbide bodegas are locate in the Señorío de Otazu, surrounded by 100 hectares of vine plantations. This 1991 renovated construction  conserve the beauty of the old bodega alongside modern technology.

Amongst its wines we would particularly emphasise the red wine Reserva Palacio de Otazu or the Crainza 1996 wine, and, amongst the white wines, the Chardonnay and Otazu 1997. Another brand name of this bodega is the Señorío de Eriete.

The telephone to reserve a meal and a visit is 948 32 92 00.

SOCIEDAD COOPERATIVA VIRGEN BLANCA
The co-operative society located in Lerín was founded in 1956. Right from the start it aimed to be a bodega of quality and began to elaborate some excellent wines which rapidly gained a foothold on the international market.

With 2581 casks and 430 hectares, pertaining to 220 vine growers, they have managed to modernise the preparation and marketing of their own brands: Viña Sardasol, Viña Ezkibel or the younger wines under Campo Lagaza. All the brands have white, rosé and red wines. We would draw your attention to the red wines, Selección Viña Sardasol, Cabernet Sauvignon Crianza 1995 and Merlot Crianza 1996.

Meal and visit to be arranged on phone 948 53 00 58.

BODEGAS OCHOA
Located in Olite, this impressive bodega exports 75% of its producs, and is particularly successful in the UK.

Bodegas Ochoa unites the tradition of a family dedicated to wine since its ancestors in the 14th Century, still conserving the old installations, to the modernity of an innovative bodega.

You must try its magnificent Moscatel Ochoa, as well as the red wine, Ochoa Gran Reserva 1992.

And we still haven’t mentioned such magnificent bodegas as Guelbenzu, Viña Magaña, Piedemonte, Príncipe de Viana, Herederos de Camilo Castilla, Luis Gurpegui Muga, Marco Real, Orvalaiz, Palacio de la Vega, la Cooperativa San Francisco Javier, Sarria, Vinícola Navarra,... And we could go on forever: good wine in Navarre never ends.
