Zubieta Mill. Eco-museum
Carretera de Leiza
31746 Zubieta
The
mill was constructed in 1785 and has continued to function up to
this day and, following some meticulous restoration work, it is
now open to the public. Here
visitors can see a live demonstration of the traditional milling
operation and discover the traditions of the village of Zubieta.
On the ground floor there are three mills operating,
two dedicated to grinding corn and one for wheat.
The “ganbara” or attic houses an ethnographic
exhibition with items that are characteristic of the area (yokes, kaikus
for holding milk to make junket, grids for cooking corn bread, cow
bells, etc …) and also tools pertaining to the mill itself. This
is a guided tour.
